Having been in town for some months helping out with the Sandquay repairs and rebuild, workboat Sgt Pepper takes its leave.

Lots of lonely hearts. And we were such a lovely audience, they would have like to take us home with them. I bet the crew of Sgt Pepper have never before heard such words.

High up on Kingswear hill, yet another construction site appears. This is to move a driveway, not to build anything. Yet.

06 February 2024 - 11:07:53
A steep site. Probably a steep cost.
There is so much building work going on both sides of the river. This digger at the top of Kingswear is moving an entrance driveway. What will fill the space created ? For that, you might have to watch THIS space.

If only this was unusual. We've seen too much cloud these last few months.

Whilst the Higher Ferry is closed undergoing annual maintenance it appears that the last bit of Bridge Road is getting a makeover. Much needed, the potholes were taking over.

Yes, really big matchsticks, but it is taking shape. Oak frame in place, the textbook way to build a quick extension.

Cloud farms are fairly new idea. But we don't want them if they breed sun eating monsters like this.

The whistle alerted all to the first train of the 2024 season. A very welcome sight. Even if the loco had to arrive backwards.

The all important first railway trip of the season. Bit of a shame that loco Goliath came in backwards across the Brunel bridge..

Yet another of the captain's logs ? Heavy rains bring debris galore downriver. And a buoy in front of the TVFTDO office snags a log. Of course, it's not like we have had heavy rain recently. Eh?

Passing by Dartmouth, some miles out to sea is.....one of the Isle of Wight ferries, the MV Red Eagle. In its way to Falmouth probably for annual maintenance, the Red Eagle is a Raptor class . Which sounds vaguely frightening.

Well, Dartmouth is a naval town, so this shouldn't be a surprise to see some BRNC folk going about armed. But from the look of it, that's more a Webley air rifle than an SA80 assault weapon.

For nearly a week Torbay anchorage has been filling up with craft either awaiting orders or preparing to shelter from the expected winds. Among them was this pairing - the Maersk Handler, an 80 metre offshore upply vessel which is towing Castoro 10, a 140m pipe burying vessel, it did the infamous Nord Stream 2 pipeline. These two spent days going round in circles rather than anchoring. And then finally they came past the end of the river..........
